Many Words Make Light Work
Idle hands are the Devil's playthings. That's it. The fact that my brain manages to sort itself out at crunch time is verification, to me anyhow, that my internal hard drive hasn't fried itself in an act of self-mutilation. Either that or the hamsters have woken from their summer sojourn, ready to start spinning the wheel again, interpreting all the silliness thrown at me on a day-to-day basis. Joy.

Electronica
Muscles + The E.L.F
Thursday April 3rd (8pm) at Manning Bar (Manning Rd, University of Sydney). Presale $20.
"I get by with a little help from my elf. I get high with a little help from my elf".
100 Percent Mega Dance feat. The Tough Alliance + Flosstradamus + Munk + The Bang Gang
Friday April 4th (9pm) at Arq (16 Flinders St, Darlinghurst). Presale $22.
Straight out of Gothenburg, Sweden, The Tough Alliance style melodic pop to suit their own needs, the Modular kids dropping names like Orange Juice, New Order and The Beach Boys when attributing the duo's sound. Munk played a weird set at the V Train. The Bang Gang kids always deliver.
Void feat. Scuba + Mark Pritchard + Luke Snarl
Friday April 4th (10pm) at Phoenix Bar (34 Oxford St, Darlinghurst). Presale $15.
Scuba is a protagonist of Dubstep, a music style of which I know absolutely nothing about. Thing is Mark Pritchard from Warp, ups, and Luke Snarl from Sub Bass Snarl, ups, are supporting him so any style he throws you know is bound to be seriously decent.
DNBBQ feat. The Bird + Ishu + Mark Pritchard
Saturday April 5th (6pm) at Manning Bar (Manning Rd, University of Sydney). Presale $20.
That man Mark Pritchard again, this time laying it down alongside electro-percussion outfit, The Bird. The DNBBQ kids, aka ForeignDub, have been in hiatus since December, returning for their usual take on beats meets meat.
Theo Parrish
Friday April 4th (9pm) at Mandarin Club (396 Pitt St, Haymarket). Presale $28.
Take one part old school disco edits, two parts house house, a pinch of techno, a splash of heavy funk and soul, crack in some crazy jazz and add a sprinkling of dub reggae ... hello Theo Parrish.
Air
Sunday April 6th (8pm) at Sydney Opera House (2 Macquarie St, Sydney). Presale $100.
I'll level with you - Air were a tad ho-hum at the V Train although the clouds did start to dribble as the lads got into their second tune. Musically, they're symphonic, mesmerising, evocative, meaning an outdoors affair, several cans of beer into the day, doesn't really do them justice.

Mixed Bag
THEATRE
Moving Target
Wednesday April 2nd (8pm) at Sydney Opera House (2 Macquarie St, Sydney). Performance continues until Sunday April 13th (Tue-Sat, 8.15pm; Sun, 5pm). $49/$37.
German playwright Marius von Mayenburg, director Benedict Andrews and six actors all team up to deliver "hide and seek for grown ups", exploring the theme of child rearing through the eyes of a bunch of "tweenies" who are slowly developing terrifying powers.
FILM
A Night of Horror Film Festival 2008
Thursday April 3rd (7pm) at Dendy Newtown (261-263 King St, Newtown). $15/$11.
I dislike horror films only because I'm a scaredy-cat. (Dislike is a harsh word and I do have a soft spot for "Halloween", but only the first one). My festival picks: "Night of the Living Jews", for the title alone; "The Double Born", from the crew that delivered the nasty as "Hellraiser" series; "La Antena" (The Aerial), German Expressionism via Argentina.
BIG BAND
Martin Martini & The Bone Palace Orchestra + Bloody Sirens + CJ Shaw
Sunday April 6th (7pm) at The Vanguard (42 King St, Newtown). Presale $12.
Martin Martini is the most fun you can have without actually taking acid. Seriously.
FUNDRAISER
Bridezilla + The Scare + Loene Carmen + Hunter Dienna + DJ Count Doyle
Sunday April 6th (4pm) at Annandale Hotel (17 Parramatta Rd, Annandale). $10 (good cause).
Holiday Sidewinder, charismatic Bridezilla front-lady, has (apparently) been invited along to the United Nations Global Young Leaders Conference of which she will be presenting her "radical views". But she needs cash to get there, managing to rope her own band plus The Scare into helping her raise funds.
TALK
Current TV in Conversation
Tuesday April 8th (6pm) at Museum of Sydney (Corner of Phillip and Bridge St, Sydney). $25/$20.
The Portable Film Festival kids are seemingly going from strength to strength, to that end holding a bit of a chit-chat with Current TV heavyweight Ezra Cooperstein. Current has its sights set on becoming the world's leading peer-to-peer news and information network, for the people by the people.

Art
Wendy Murray: Welcome to my Neighbourhood
Wednesday April 2nd (6pm) at The Art Traders ( 134 Darlinghurst Rd, Darlinghurst). Exhibition continues until Saturday April 26th (Tue-Fri, 10am-5pm; Sat, 11am-4pm). FREE!
In the five or so years since I've known Wendy, she's been constantly documenting the faces, places and spaces in and around Darlinghurst. From plastic butterflies to murals of the locals to the odd gutter motif she’s always been there, a ghost in the machine. And the suburb thanks her dearly.
CURVY 5
Friday April 4th (10am) at Mori Gallery (168 Day St, Sydney). Exhibition continues until Sunday April 6th (Fri-Sun, 10am-5pm). FREE!
One of the jewels in the Semi-Permanent crown, CURVY at its core is a celebration of creative all-girl talent. Produced by the YEN Magazine punks, the touring exhibition and limited edition book is an inspiring collection of the hottest international, and local mind, female illustrators and graphic designers.
1000 Cans
Friday April 4th (6pm) at Global Gallery (5 Comber St, Paddington). Exhibition continues until Sunday April 13th (Tue-Sat, 11am-6pm; Sun, 2pm-4pm). FREE!
Spray cans imitate art? Maybe? Melbourne based artist Hiroyasu Tsuri, who also runs under the moniker Two, decided one day to present his own version of Sadako Sasaki and the 1000 paper cranes by taking on the task of painting old, used and discarded spray paint cans.
Kids Today
Friday April 4th (7pm) at MTV Gallery (4-16 Yurong St, East Sydney). Exhibition continues until Sunday April 6th (Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm). FREE!
Big names: Buff Monster, Anthony Lister, Kill Pixie, Cupco, Numskull (hello!), Joseph Allen (ditto!), EAMO, Trent Whitehead, Torso Corso, We Buy Your Kids. Big bands: The Wahas, Yes Nukes! Big DJs: Jimmy Sing, Mr Bonjour, Tyson. All brought to you by the kids at Stupid Krap.

The White Book Going great guns at the moment with a revamped look, a fashion exhibition and a first birthday to boot, there's not a grey cloud in the sky for the kids over at The White Book. That and the ongoing promotion of emerging and established Australian fashion labels.
CITYshrinker "Everything looks peaceful from 1353 feet". Ferris Bueller, meet CITYshrinker.
Polaroids Of Androids Jonny Polaroid spent three weeks in an underground bunker coding his little brains out, the resulting extreme makeover is an absolute joy.

Matthew Lock "Life Could Be Easier". Spookily cool stuff, the character in the window reminds me of Beavis. Or Butt-Head. I always get those two confused.
WON Magazine "I will go pick up a copy of WON this week. I must go pick up a copy of WON this week". Mantra for a slack ass who hasn't gotten around to reading WON Magazine.
Muxtape "A simple way to create and share MP3 mixtapes".
I Didn't Hurt My Bum At All New Zealand just keeps getting weirder and weirder: "Apart from speaking Australian now, I'm pretty all right you know".

Amateur Surgeon Operation used to be one of my favourite board games, but performing surgery on peeps with a pizza cutter takes the idea to a whole other level.
La Linea I used to trip out, badly, to this cartoon as a kid, a simple line drawing of a seemingly bipolar individual who speaks in Italian gibberish and is at the mercy of a hand with pencil attached.
They Are Like Wannabe Emos Nice pouting ladies - is that like your Blue Steel or are you pulling a Magnum? The Scene kids are moving in on emo territory, Mods and Rockers for the 21st century.

About Kripy
Kripy is me, Arturo Escartin, trying to make sense of the city I live in, Sydney. The Kripy Irregular Mailer contains the picks of the litter with the website updated daily. I may miss a week here or there - don't hate me for it. Ulterior motives exist: a place to brain dump; a way of sharing the constant deluge of things that are sent to and discovered by me, both analog and digital; a website I can truly call my own, the essence of "time suckage" which keeps me creating, evolving, learning and innovating on all things web.
